  • Digital Trend 2022 | Online Video Content

Textural content used to be the "king" while creating a website or blog, however, the time has changed. With the tremendous growth of user-generated content (UGC), the content generated by amateur users is mainly based on online video content or multimedia production. Many multimedia productions on the internet are produced unprofessionally due to convenience. Unprofessional video content became the source of news for the younger generation. According to a survey from common sense media, dated 13 Aug 2019, teens nowadays get news via different social media channels or YouTube instead of traditional reliable news channels. Here are some interesting findings: (Source: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/) 78% of teenagers say it is important to follow current events. Teens get their news more frequently from social media sites (e.g., Facebook and Twitter) or YouTube than from news organizations. 60% of teens who get news from YouTube say they are more likely to get it from celebrities, influencers, and personalities than news organizations (39%). Teens prefer a visual medium for learning about the news. Image from freepik According to the Digital 2022 Global Overview Report published in partnership with We Are Social and Hootsuite, 91.1% of internet users aged between 16 to 64 watch any video content via the internet each week. (Source: https://datareportal.com/reports/digital-2022-global-overview-report) Other statistical data from Digital 2022, Global Overview Report, the world’s most-used social platforms in chronological order, are Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, WeChat, TikTok, FB Message, douyin, QQ, etc. All of those mentioned social media channels can watch multimedia content. (Source: https://datareportal.com/reports/digital-2022-global-overview-report) Many social media channels are modifying their presenting methods by adding video as a feature because the demand for viewing is overgrowing. Except for the long-term famous video channel player YouTube, TikTok and douyin from China, which launched in 2016 and exploded in popularity over the past few years. New features from popular social media channels such as Facebook Watch, Instagram Reels, and Twitter Video has been developed to keep channels up-to-the-trend. In addition, many other video-sharing platforms, such as Dailymotion, Vimeo, DTube, and more, dominate the communication market in schools and businesses. This is shown that the importance of textural content has transformed into digital video content. Digital video content is no longer a marketing tool for businesses, it became the source of information.
